Sharon Ferris-Choat is not just one of the world’s most accomplished offshore sailors, she’s a changemaker on a mission
Over a 30-year career, Sharon has sailed more than 124,000 nautical miles, competed in two Olympic Games, and became the first woman to win a round-the-world team yacht race. She broke multiple speed records and is widely respected for her tactical excellence and fierce determination.
But it’s her vision beyond the helm that’s making waves today.

Sharon is a circular economy advocate, a mother of two, and a global voice for innovation in sustainability and women’s leadership. Her work bridges extreme sport, environmental advocacy, and product development—with the ocean as both proving ground and teacher.

Sharon is committed to turning ocean adversity into opportunity. She’s working with scientists, engineers, and product designers to test and scale sustainable solutions at sea—from regenerative materials to zero-waste systems.

As a steward of the ocean, Sharon is collaborating with marine researchers to collect water samples and vital ocean data in some of the world’s most remote regions.

Sharon’s legacy includes creating new entry points for young people—especially girls—to engage in STEM, leadership, and global adventure. Through storytelling and scholarship, she’s helping shape the next generation of fearless changemakers.
